Commonly referred to as the false yew, the tree has evergreen foliage, with needle-like leaves that resemble those of the yew plant. Pseudotaxus can also be referred to as "false cypress," "false cedar," or "false hemlock" due to its resemblance to these plants. Additionally, the tree is also known as "Dian yew" in China, where it is endemic to the Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.
