Mesenteric panniculitis, also known as retractile mesenteritis, is a rare medical condition that affects the mesentery, which is the tissue that holds the intestines in place. It is characterized by the abnormal inflammation and thickening of the mesentery, which can cause abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. There are a few synonyms used to refer to this condition, including mesenteric lipodystrophy, mesenteric adipose tissue inflammation, and mesenteric fibrosis. Although there is no known cure for mesenteric panniculitis, treatments such as corticosteroids or surgery may be used to alleviate symptoms and improve overall quality of life.
