Hypnosis, also known as hypnotherapy, is the practice of inducing a trance-like state to bring about a sense of relaxation and heightened suggestibility. There are several alternative terms that are used to describe this state of being. These include "trance," "mesmerism," "sleep-like state," and "induced relaxation." Some practitioners might use the term "guided imagery," "meditation," or "deep relaxation" to refer to hypnosis. The word "hypnotism" is also sometimes used interchangeably with hypnosis. Regardless of the name used to describe it, the goal of hypnosis remains the same: to help individuals access their subconscious mind to facilitate positive change and personal growth.
