Aquatint is a type of etching process which involves creating a tonal effect on a metal plate by the use of acid. Synonyms for aquatint include stippling, engraving, intaglio, etching and zincography amongst others. Intaglio is a technique used to produce a design by cutting or scratching into a metal plate.
